Vampire's Lust

The story

On a dark road, a car brakes for a woman waving him down. Her phone is dead, her story is scary, and the last driver who stopped for her ignored her refusals. She rejects police, saying they cannot help, and asks him to protect her through the night. A roadside motel becomes the plan.

The clerk smirks, and he insists the keys are all he wants. Two beds. Later she tells him he smells like cold air, gasoline and something warm beneath, and that his eyes watch the door while his heart races. He mentions that he is married. She replies that wedding vows are meant for people who will run out of time, and she knows better.

• The stranger: The roadside woman with a dead phone, a fear of police and a secret.
