Cleopatra and Caesar

The story

The war is going badly for Rome. Egyptian forces press closer, and Caesar cannot afford to lose more territory. Cleopatra appears at his war table, presenting herself as the prize his enemy is offering. Caesar reminds her that he has a wife and orders her out, even as his composure slips. Then word arrives that her army has overrun his eastern camp.

In episode 2 the two meet again after a night of fighting between their armies. He is angry, and she says his eyes disagree. He swears he will not be fooled twice. That is when she stops him with news she learned that morning: she is pregnant, and he is the father.

Why watch it

Costume drama with an adult edge: a general with a wife, a queen with a plan and a war that keeps interrupting. It is about power as much as desire, and episode 2 ends on a reveal. Episode 1 ends with Caesar ordering her out, and whether that holds is the reason to press play.
