The Witch Who Made Me King

The story

Ser Garrick rides with a hunting party, a bastard knight everyone insists will never wear a crown. A witch steps out and offers him the royalty he wants. Seven lords must pledge themselves to him; two already have, and five despise his name. He vows to win them with his sword. She tells him to come at moonrise, and by dawn one lord will kneel.

He comes. Her price is a night with her for each of the five lords he still needs, and she wants the man, not his soul. Refuse, and a rival named Haldan laughs at his coronation while the queen regent's chosen man takes the throne. With riders searching the wood, he lets them search.
