My Roommate's Girlfriend

The story

Sadie is a fixture every weekend, and her boyfriend's roommate Nate hears more than he wants to. Over coffee they trade insults: to her he's the worst, to him her boyfriend Ben is dull, and neither can hide who's winning the argument.

Ben asks whether Sadie can stay the entire weekend, and Nate agrees with a grin and a warning about noise.

Later, at two in the morning, she wanders into the kitchen dressed for something other than water. Ben calls out from the bedroom, Nate dares her to say what she wants, and the counter is within reach.

The characters

• Nate: The cocky roommate who says what everyone else is thinking and enjoys the reaction.
• Sadie: Ben's girlfriend, who calls Nate the worst while she keeps coming back to the argument.
• Ben: A kind, sleepy boyfriend and trusting roommate, always one room behind the action.

Why watch it

Best for fans of roommate rivalry that is really chemistry in disguise. Nothing here is subtle: the jokes are barbed, the pauses are long, and the walls do most of the narrating. Begin with episode 1, a morning-after scene that shows exactly where this is headed.
