Under the Chief

The story

It is her final night of probation. Her supervisor, the head nurse, is hunting for a reason to fire her, and the hospital's chief keeps glancing her way. When the floor goes quiet, he says it would be a shame to spend it on paperwork. Told the new hire will not last the night, he says she will spend it with him. He shelves the board's request and tells Vanessa to keep everyone out.

Episode 2 finds her mortified at having sworn in front of the chief on her final night. He likes it, and says he picked her because she is not like Vanessa. Outside, staff gossip, and someone knocks to ask if he is still in there.
