Old Friends, New Sins

The story

Over dinner, your friend Niko brags about how costly it is to keep the woman at his side. Then he admits the money is gone, the company is sinking, and he is nearly bankrupt. When the check arrives, his card is declined while she watches. You cover it without a word, and Niko calls you a lifesaver.

She has noticed. Niko is no fun tonight, she says, and maybe you are. A driver brings everyone to the house, Niko is worn out and grateful, and she whispers that men do not need to chase. It is late, so Niko insists you stay over. She points you to the guest wing and mentions how private it is.
