My New Stepmom Used to Be a Stripper

The story

Jake's dad introduces his new wife, Mia, and the greeting is cheerful: hi, stepson. Jake recognizes her at once, because she danced under the name Cherry at his best friend Tyler's bachelor party in Vegas.

She denies everything while his father heads off to light the grill. Jake offers proof, a small tattoo on her hip, and she asks what he wants. Then Tyler calls, asks about the new stepmom, and invites himself over Saturday.

Mia puts it plainly: keep quiet, and the living room becomes her stage once more after midnight, Vegas rules. He says deal. When his dad returns and says they are bonding well, Mia calls Jake the sweetest, then adds a time: midnight.

The characters

• Jake: Stepson with a sharp memory, a poor poker face and a chatty best friend.
• Mia: The new wife, who insists he is mistaken until a tattoo says otherwise.
• His dad: Cheerful and busy at the grill, the one person at the table without a clue.

A good fit for readers who like a shared secret with a clock on it. The comedy comes from a family barbecue, a polite denial and a stepson who knows exactly what he saw. Mia stays composed and Jake does not. Press play on episode 1 for the introduction and the midnight deal.
