Mum Got Sick On Our Holiday

The story

Harriet's mom fell ill the moment they landed, probably from the prawns. She asks her husband to keep Harriet entertained all week, trusting his good hands. Harriet takes the assignment seriously. She asks her stepdad to put sunscreen on her back, since she can't reach, and tells her mom on the phone he has been very hands-on. Then she suggests a VIP bed with curtains by the pool, for the shade, naturally.

In episode 2 she confesses she has watched him since the wedding three years ago, when he danced with her mom. She wants to hear him say what he wants. The sick mom calls for cookies, and Harriet says they can wait.

The characters

• Her stepdad: The husband told to keep her entertained; he knows he should say no and does not
• Her mom: Ill since landing, grateful to her husband and calling at exactly the wrong time

Why watch it

A vacation drama with a comic streak, built around a sick mom, a stepdad on duty and a stepdaughter with a plan three years in the making. Episode 1 is sunscreen, curtains and flimsy excuses, so start there if that sounds like fun.
