Our Surprise for Mom!

The story

The wife's birthday is Saturday, and her daughter wants a surprise party at the house. She recruits her stepdad, who has never heard his wife ask for anything. Together they keep Mom busy elsewhere and secretly call her estranged stepsister, Aunt Sarah, silent for four years.

Then the stepdaughter says she has caught him watching her. He wonders what he is doing, and still agrees to meet her in the guest room while Mom is at work.

Next she shows him a look she has planned for Saturday and says one part is not for the guests. She took on the planning, she admits, to spend a week in the house with him, until Mom comes home early.
