Our Host Is Riley Reid

The story

To celebrate her birthday, a couple checks into a house on the sand, and Riley Reid meets them at the door with a smile and a rulebook: no photos, no shoes indoors, and everybody rinses off at the outdoor shower. The girlfriend heads upstairs to get dressed for dinner. He heads out to the shower, where Riley tells him not to break any rules.

Later she turns up with a towel and a fourth rule: nobody showers alone. His girlfriend is right upstairs and dinner is minutes away, but Riley is not rattled. She asks him to tell the birthday girl five more minutes, and says he has to wash her first.

The characters

• Riley Reid: Rulebook-wielding host, an AI twin used under license; the performer filmed none of it.
• The boyfriend: Guest at a birthday weekend whose first shower comes with company he did not plan on.
• The girlfriend: Birthday girl changing for dinner upstairs, close enough to call down about the time.
